Why Product Management?

For some time now, I have been receiving LinkedIn messages as to how I made a switch into Product Management from an Engineering role. This post is not about my story, rather about students and professionals asking for help.

"Engineering is not fun anymore", "Product Manager role seems to be more straightforward", "I can do a better job than my Product Manager", "I don't like to code anymore", etc., are some common answers I hear from folks who reach out to me. Let me be blunt here -- Product role is not an easier alternative, nor the role is curated for someone who comes from an Engineering background. From my experience, working on the product side is more challenging, demanding and taxing than the engineering job I used to do. Here at AMD, I have worked with some of the best PMs who are great strategic thinkers, excellent negotiators, empathetic towards customer problems, and exude extraordinary business and analytical skills.

Aspiring to move to a product role is understandable, but foremost having product mindset is extremely beneficial. Have a legit answer to "Why Product management?"
